I just watched a great documentary called “That Sugar Movie”. It’s a fascinating look by Damon Gameau at what we think of as “healthy foods” that are really just loaded with sugar. I would recommend anyone who cares about their health and what they are feeding their families to watch this. It was completely eye-opening, even for me, a health professional!
When America entered the low fat craze, food manufacturers took all the fat out of food and replaced it with sugar. 40 odd years later we are a nation of overweight, medication addicted, hypertensive, diabetic, lethargic citizens. The good news is, it’s never too late to turn things around and take back your health! Take a look in your kitchen and start reading the labels of things you may deem “healthy” like yogurt, cereals, sauces, and juice. They probably have a huge amount of sugar, hidden sugar. According to the American Heart Association, men should have 37.5 or 9 teaspoons a day and women should have 25 grams or 6 teaspoons. We blow that away because we are not paying attention. Next time you go grocery shopping, stick to the outer aisles. Pay attention to sugar contents and take control of you and your family’s health! Don’t fear the good fats that are in things like avocados, olive oil, nuts and some cheeses. Once you lessen your sugar intake, you will notice increased energy, less mood swings, clarity, clearer skin and a healthy digestive system. Doesn’t that sound AMAZING!?
